Prayer of the Righteous - Daily Word 11/25/11

"The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results"

- James 5:16

God answers prayers and God protects and cares for the righteous. Those who are living the life of Christ and conducting themselves in the way God has intended and outlined for us have access to the many wonderful things of God that not all do. God listens to all prayers, but He pays special attention to the righteous...to those who are His children (Psalm 55:22) Do not give up in prayer. As a righteous follower of Christ, throw yourself into prayer daily...intense prayer. Pray for yourself, but also pray for others, pray for situations, pray for increase, and when you run out of things to pray for in the natural...let your Spirit talk to God and pray in the Spirit. God's Word itself says that there is great power in the prayer of a righteous person. Let us put that great power to great use in our lives and allow it to produce the wonderful results that the Bible says it does in accordance with God's own will.

Prayer Point: Pray. Pray for anything and everything you can think of. Pray in the Holy Spirit. Simply Pray. Allow your intense prayer to produce wonderful results in your life and the lives of those around you

Thoughtful & Thankful - Daily Word 11/23/11

"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus"

- 1 Thessalonians 5:18

As we approach Thanksgiving day, it is important that we remember to truly give thanks, not merely be thankful for the wonderful food you will eat this Thursday. God tells us to give thanks in all circumstances. No matter what situation we may find ourselves in and no matter how good or bad we perceive it to be, we are to give thanks to the Lord "for this is God's will" for us. Giving thanks shows God that you are appreciative of everything you have; your life, your health, your family, how much or how little you may have. Do not gauge what you have and don't have based on what the world covets and places on a pedestal (i.e. wealth, assets, fame, etc.). Instead gauge what you have based on what God wants for your life, based on what the Bible says you should hold dear and keep close to your heart.

This Thanksgiving, when you think about what you are thankful for, go beyond the basics. Of course you are thankful for you family and friends, food on the table, and a roof over your head, but in addition to that, be thoughtful about all that God has done in your life. When you are thoughtful you'll be thankful. Be thankful for God's grace and His mercy on your life. Be thankful for His forgiveness and His love, His faithfulness, and His omnipotence. Be thankful that God hears your prayers and answers them as well. Thank god for His Holy Spirit that dwells within you.

Daily Word 11/21/11

"To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

- John 8: 31-32 (NLT)

Hold on to the teachings of Jesus Christ and we can be set free! We have all probably heard this several times...the truth will set you free, but what does that really mean? Well we know that Jesus is the Way, the TRUTH, and the Light...meaning that He is the truth. Jesus also told us that if we aren't for him, then we are against him. If we are not serving the God and His Kingdom, then we are serving the devil and the kingdom of darkness...which I'm sure none of us want to do. Until you are saved and give your life to Christ we are in bondage to sin and the world. The truth will set us free. Jesus will set us free from the bondage of sin when we give our lives to him and are redeemed by his name. The sentence seems so simple, but the message behind it is so powerful. Allow Jesus Christ to set you free from sin and the works of the devil. Free yourself from the heavy chains of sin. Then you will experience to goodness of God and of a life that strives to reflect that of Jesus's. Pay attention to Jesus's teachings. Read you Bible very well and pay attention to everything it says. For Jesus says that is the truth that will set us free. Go and be free in Jesus's name!

Prayer Point: Pray today that God set your free from the bondage of sin. If you are already saved, pray that God help you stay on the straight and narrow path to heaven. Do not turn back to sinful desires or compromise your walk in Christ for the world. Stay free in the name of Jesus and learn from the teachings Jesus has for us in God's word [the Bible].

"I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me"

- Psalm 34:4 (NLT)

Nothing helps build and strengthen you faith in the Almighty God like an answered prayer. But sometimes people feel as if their prayers haven't been answered and that they will never be. That is where we step in. We who have experienced the goodness of an answered prayer from God. Those of us who know that God does answer our prayers and that He does it in His own time. A testimony is a powerful tool that we as Christians have to not only give the glory to God for all that He does in our lives, but also to build up and strengthen our fellow believers with our story. A testimony shows others, believers and non-believers alike, that God can bring people a mighty long way. A powerful testimony can give people hope and faith in God by knowing and seeing what the Lord has done for you. It is so important for us to share our testimonies with others, giving God the glory and helping others all at the same time. Whether it be little or large, drastic or subtle, tell others and everyone what God has done for you. Sometime your testimony is exactly what someone else needs to hear to motivate them in the direction towards God. Everyone wants to experience goodness and happiness in their lives, sharing you testimonies shows people that God is exactly where they can get those things.

Life Point: If you have a testimony to share, share it! Share it so that you may give God the glory for what He has done in your life and so that others can know of the goodness of God and how He works in people's lives.

We at Open A Bible were ecstatic to learn the hidden truth about secular songwriter Musiq Soulchild's hit song, "Love." Did you know that Musiq had originally intended this song to be a gospel song? It was originally titled "Lord"...not "Love." Musiq's record company didn't want a gospel song on his album and changed the words Lord to Love to appeal to a more mainstream audience.

The song's lyrics make so much more sense to us now that we know the song was not intended as a clever personification of the word love, but a love song intended for our the Lord our God. Look at the lyrics (we've changed them to reflect what they were originally intended to be) and listen to the song. What a beautiful song to our God! We will never be able to listen to the original song the same again! We at OAB will be forever changing the words in our mind to "Lord"

God in Me - Daily Word 11/17/11

Jacob said, "For what a relief it is to see your friendly smile. It is like seeing the smile of God"

- Genesis 33:10

We should always be striving to have God's light shine through us. We should be a walking testimony of what the goodness of God can do in one's life. In this verse, Jacob says that Esau's face is like seeing the smiling face of God. That is what everyone we encounter should say about us. People should be able to see God in us. See the good work He is doing in us and see the joy He gives us daily. God told us that we are to be a light that His people run to, so we must be shining at all times. We should be the friendly face in the sea of frowns. Just think of yourself as God's ambassadors...we are constantly representing Him in all that we do, even when we don't know we are being watched. Let us, as followers of Christ, be the friendly face to which people, believers and non-believers alike, can turn. Show your love, gentleness, and kindness for others. Let it be written on your face.

Life Point: Be an inspiration to people today. Let the love of God shine through your face today and let it be a testament to all people that God in working in your life and your heart. Be that encouraging and smiling face in the sea of ad and downtrodden. When you are thoughtful about all the God is doing in you, you will not be able to help but let it shine through.

Daily Word 11/16/11 (No Bad News)

"They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust in the Lord to care for them"

- Psalm 112:7 (NLT)

I never start my day off my reading or listening to the news. Nothing but bad news scrolls across the headlines every single day. It is so easy to get sucked into the real of negativity and turmoil that is spreading across the world, from natural disasters, to economic meltdowns, job losses, and housing crises. This Psalm serves as a reminder to us, God's children, that we don't have to worry about all of that bad news, no matter if we think it affects us or not. God will care for and spare His children from the disasters that plague the world. As God's children, we do not have to suffer or struggle because we serve an Almighty God who provides for our every need.. We do not have to fear as long as we trust in the Lord to care for us. We must be confident in God and His promises to us. James 1:6-8 says that our loyalty must not be divided between God and the world, or we will be unsettled and unstable in all that we do. As God's children, and true followers of Christ, we are spared from the bad news that we see on the headlines everyday, so we have no need to fear anything.

Prayer Point: Pray that God supply your every need amiss all that is happening in the world. Ask God to give you the grace to trust in Him wholeheartedly and confidently. Turn to Him in prayer to spare you from all the bad that seems to be happening around you.

Daily Word 11/15/11

"It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by His own authority"

- Acts 1:7 (NLT)

It easy to take things into our own hands after we've seen a lack of progress or success after a while, is it not? When people see that things aren't going well or they aren't getting what they need, people often times will go out and try to make things happen for themselves, using their own wisdom and understanding to make a way for themselves. That is not what God wants for our lives. First and foremost, God never wants us to lean on our own understanding...He always wants us to turn to Him (Proverbs 3:5). Secondly, Acts says it the best...our Father has set His own dates and times for when things will happen according to His own authority. When we've prayed and prayed for things, and they don't happen according to OUR time tables and schedules we have to remember that God is working things out for us and HIS schedule is the only one that matters. Staying persistent in prayer while we entrust our situations into God's hands is an expression of our faith that God will take care of us. Patience and Persistence in Prayer the 3P's that help your faith in God grow. We must remember that God causes all things to work together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28) and anything that God has planned for us is going to be better than everything we could have done for ourselves. Stay persistent in your prayers to God and trust that He will take care of you whether it be financially, spiritually, materially, physically, or emotionally. God will take care of you in His own time and His own way. We must be patient and remember that we are on God's time, He isn't on ours.

Prayer Point: Pray that God give you the patience to wait on Him and not take things into your own hands. Stay patient and wait on God to act.

We are announcing that Open A Bible will begin the open online blog discussion of the book on Sunday, November 27th. The discussion will run for one week; November 27th through December 3rd.

We hope that you are reading along with us, and if you haven't started yet, it is not too late to make a dent in some reading before the 27th! We encourage everyone to read along and participate in the discussion as we hope to learn and grow in Christ as a community here at Open A Bible! Daily Word 11/14/11

"Stay alert! Watch out for your greatest enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour"

- 1 Peter 5:8 (NLT)

In this verse Peter, and God, are both warning us of letting our guard down against our greatest adversary, the devil. It is easy to think that we, as Christians, are immune to the attack of the devil, which isn't true, because although God's word says that no weapon formed against me shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17) it doesn't mean that the devil still won't try. If you let down your guard against the devil, you may very well end up walking into something on your own. May this not be your portion in Jesus' name! You must be sober and alert, and tread carefully and cautiously around the things that are not of God lest you walk into the Kingdom of darkness, ruled by the devil. If you do not pay attention, have a mind that thinks constantly of God, and have not the presence of the Holy Spirit which will guide you into all truth (John 16:13), we as free-willed humans can walk into traps and tricks set by the devil to cause followers of Christ to stumble in our walk of salvation. God and His Holy Spirit can point out to us the plans of the enemy against our lives and the lives around us so that we may effectively ward off the attempts of the devil, but we must be alert. We must not only stay alert to the tricks of the enemy, but to warnings, signs, and messages coming from God as well. He is here to help us along the way, but we must have eyes that see Him, ears that hear Him, and hearts that trusts what He says. Do not ever let your guard down against the devil. He may be lurking in the least expected places, so wear your salvation like a helmet and keep the word of God as your sword to ward off the enemy (Ephesians 6:17).

Prayer Point: Pray that God reveals to you the plans of the enemy against your life and that He protects you from all the devil's plans. Stay rooted in the Word of God and pray that God further opens your eyes and ears to see and understand both the plans and attacks of the devil and the warnings and direction that come from God.

Give God the Glory

"Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness because he accepted the people's worship instead of giving the glory to God"

- Acts 12:23 (NLT)

Who are we to think that we deserve any glory, honor, or recognition? The Bible tells us in many places that all glory is for God only (Luke 2:14, 1 Corinthians 10:31, etc.) Remember the Scripture that tells us "Apart from me, you can do nothing" (John 15:5) and that everything we have has been given to us by God? (1 Corinthians 4:7). Then why would we accept the praises of men for our works and deeds?

Everything that we do is supposed to be for the glory of God. So when we are praised for it, it is our responsibility to instantly turn that praise around and give it to God. If someone tells you that you did a great job, simply turn around and say, "All glory to God." To some people it may seem silly, extra, or a little over the top when a simple "thank you" would suffice. But that is not what God wants us to do. In Acts chapter 12, we see that God became furious with King Herod for accepting the praise of the people and plagued him with a sickness that he died from (Acts 12:24). If it weren't that serious of a deal to God, then He wouldn't tell us to do it.

Remember not to accept the praises of others for the good things that you do in life. Do not be proud or boastful of your own work, and do not think that something is too small to give God the glory for. The glory is all for God, always and forever.

Daily Word 11/12/11

"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits."

- Psalm 103:1 (NKJV)

(Read Psalm 103:1-28 for fuller understanding)

Bless the Lord with ALL your soul! The New Living Translation of this verse says "Let all that I am praise the Lord." How self-explanatory is this verse, yet moving and powerful at the same time! Let everything that you are, every ounce of your being bless and sing praises unto the Lord our God, simply for who He is. This verse also tells us to not forget His benefits, because as praises go up from us, blessings come down from God. This psalm goes on to tell us how God keeps us, protects us, gives us salvation, listens to our prayers, and hears our cries. Psalm 103 gives us such a wonderful picture of all that God does for us. It's no wonder that the first verse of this psalm tells us to bless the Lord with all of who we are. Don't we owe that much to God?...our everything? Our soul is all that we have, for it is the only thing that will last on the day of Jesus' return, and is the thing we should be protecting the most. So all of our souls should praise God for He and His son Jesus Christ are the Savior of our souls! Give God everything you have to give...your soul!

Praise Point: Bless the Lord with all your soul today! Send praises up to the Most High, thanking Him for all He has done and does for us every day. Give the Lord all you have...ALL you have...your soul!

Daily Word 11/11/11

"Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness"

- 1 Timothy 4:7 (NLT)

This verse is great because it is very straightforward and to the point. Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness. Discipline yourself so that you will be worthy of being used by God for His will. We, as Christians, must learn to continually deny ourselves, train ourselves, and teach ourselves what is good and right, according to God's word, so that we may be a reflection of Jesus in righteousness. Just as you would discipline yourself in a sport so that you are good at it and worthy of the coach putting you in the game, we must discipline ourselves so that God will use us too. By denying ourselves our sinful desires, reading and studying our Bibles, and continually striving to be a reflection of Christ in all that we do, we can be disciplined for godliness and be used for God's will and inherit His Kingdom at the final judgement day. Work, be disciplined, and be diligent in the Word and works of God.

Prayer Point: Pray that God give you the strength and grace to deny yourself daily and discipline yourself for His glory and His will.

"Yahweh" , "I Hate You", "Broken Spirit", "Avalyable", and "Higher" are just a few of our favorites from Mali Music and his 2econd Coming album

And now we get to add "The Job Experience" to our list of like from Mali! With a especially poignant music video to go along with it, this song touched our souls immediately (watch it below!). We urge you all to go listen to Mali Music, give him a try! With music styles with a broad range that can appeal to many Christian listeners, Mali Music is a favorite in not just the Christian music industry, but in the entire music industry. Having appeared in the BET Awards show in July of this year, Mali Music is quickly popping into the radar of more and more Christians and non-Christians alike. Mali Music is truly succeeding in helping spread God's word through the ministry of music.

Mali Music visited Howard University in Washington, D.C. per an invitation from the Religious Students Organizations Association for a free concert in Cramton Auditorium, along with many other Christian artists. This free concert allowed students who were already Mali Music and Christian music fans, and those who had never been exposed to it, the opportunity come out, listen, and have a great time worshipping God!

We just wanted to highlight Mali Music for doing great things for God in the form of music for a younger generation!

Daily Word 11/10/11

"If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall"

- 1 Corinthians 10:12 (NLT)

This verse came to me with a revelation that God gave me in a dream. In the dream I was driving my car and I thought everything was perfectly fine. I was in complete control of the car, as a driver should be, until I tried to brake. Once I tried to stop I realized that I only thought I was in control....but I really wasn't. And now I wasn't only not in control, but I was headed towards a cliff that I didn't even know was there. The first Scripture that came to mind when I woke up was 1 Corinthians 10:12. While this dream and revelation did speak directly to a present situation that I dealing with and attempting to "control", this dream and Scripture can serve as a warning for all of us from God. Plainly and simply, if you think you are standing strong, be careful not fall. It is so easy for us to think that we control the situations we are in, put ourselves in, or are around. God warns us not to fall. Do not trust so much in yourself, your self-control, your knowledge, or your understanding or cleverness....we are not as strong as we think we are. Sometimes it takes us losing control to realize that we never had control in the first place, but God warns us about this early on. God doesn't want any of us to fall, so take heed, be weary, and trust not in yourself, but in God and the power of His Holy Spirit to help and to keep you from falling.

Prayer Point: Pray that God helps you not to fall. Pray that you do not wander into temptation or fool yourself into believing that you are in control. Remember that only God is ever in control.

Daily Word 11/9/11

"And so, God willing, we will move forward to further understanding."

- Hebrews 6:3 (NLT)

Greater understanding in the Lord is what we all as Christians should be striving for, daily. So many places in the Bible talks about us not relying on our own understanding, not trying to find our own way, but relying on God and turning to Him for understanding, wisdom, and knowledge (Proverbs 14:12, Philippians 4:6, Proverbs 3:5). In order for us to do that, we must grow in our knowledge of God. We must do the things He commands us in his word. Read your Bible, fast and pray, commit yourself to God and to Jesus, and keeping your heart pure are just a few of the things He asks of us. Gaining greater understanding of the will of God for our lives will help us to make the right decisions, choose the correct paths, and do the things that will cause God to smile down upon us. We should yearn to mature as Christians. Being saved is not where your growth in Christ stops. You must learn more and more about God, His ways, and His will just as you would learn more and more about your profession that longer you are there. God doesn't want us to be confused as Christians...if you want to understand something all you have to do is ask.

Prayer Point: Pray that God increase your understanding and your knowledge in Him. Ask God to reveal to you His will for your life and that you He prepare your heart to receive it. Yearn for greater understanding in God's word. Read and study your Bible diligently and pray that you grow in understanding into a mature believer of Christ and God.

Daily Word 11/8/11 (Wise not Wild)

"Look carefully then how you walk, not as wild but as wise"

- Ephesians 5:15 (NKJV)

Being a Christian comes with a great responsibility that many believer do not even realize. As Christians, we have the responsibility to be a living example of the word of God. Many nonbelievers don't know what it means to be a Christian, so when they meet one, they are picking apart your actions, conversations, dress, and attires scrupulously...they're trying to figure out what this whole Christian lifestyle thing is about. So we never want to be caught losing our temper, cursing someone out, or heading out scantily clad for the night because we set a bad example for what it means to be a Christian. We must be careful, because we are an example to others on how to live by the word of God. Set the right example for others who are not yet in Christ. Be forgiving, gentle, kind, generous, self-controlled, loving, and even-tempered. Let all the fruits of the Holy Spirit shine forth in your daily life. We are God's representatives on earth, he counts on us to set good examples of what Christian lifestyles are supposed to reflect. We have been given a great responsibility, so let us do it properly. Let God work in your life and let it be seen by the world!

Prayer Point: Pray that today God gives you the grace and understanding to realize that you are his representative on earth. Realize that you are to be an example of the living word of God for others. Ask God to help you walk as a wise person, not as someone who is wild.

Daily Word 11/7/11

"Everything is possible to the one who believes"

- Mark 9:23 (CSB)

Everything is possible. That is not normally what you hear in everyday conversation with people. Normally you hear about all the "what ifs", the limitations of whatever you want to do, why it won't work, or why it doesn't make sense. Remember....anything is possible when you have God. Anything.

And remember that anything means everything, and everything means anything. It doesn't matter where you are right now, you can be wherever you want to be. I have a friend who is in a situation that he believes is keeping him from making a true commitment to giving his life to Christ. He says it's impossible for him to escape. The first thing out of my mouth was "Nothing is impossible with God" (Luke 1:37). Nothing! It's a concept that's hard for people to wrap their minds around nowadays. If there is a situation that you are trying to escape, pray to God that He will provide a way out for you. God can do anything and everything. When every path seems to have roadblocks too large to overcome. But we have God on our side. That is what separates us, children of God, from the rest of the world. God is on your side and nothing will be impossible for you. That is such a powerful promise from God for us! So no matter your situation, circumstances, or needs, God can and will work it out for you if you believe. Believe that God will be on your side. Believe that God will cause things to work in your favor. Believe in Him and watch Him work in your life.

What is a friend to you? A friend is someone you confide in, someone you have a good time with, share stories with, and who is there to just spend time with. Jesus Christ has told us in this verse that we can be his friends! All we have to do is what he tells us to do. Can you imagine being friends with the Savior of this world? Sitting down to just pass the time together, sharing stories, and enjoying each others' company? We can have that relationship with Jesus...what a powerful thought! Wouldn't you want Jesus to be your friend? True friends take care of each other, they help each other out when they need it, and they are always there for you. We can have Jesus on our side! We can have Jesus there when we need help, and he will always be there for us. All we have to do for him is whatever he says.

Prayer Point: Pray that today you and Jesus can begin to strengthen your friendship and your relationship together. Pray that you are given the grace to do what Jesus commands of us and that we will be granted his friendship. Focus on Jesus today. Focus on the things Jesus wants us to do. If you aren't sure, open a bible.

Jesus Feeds 5000

John 6:1-15 & Matthew 14:13-21

Read this story before beginning reading this devotional

In this story, Jesus and his disciples are faced with the task to feed the 5000 followers they have attracted throughout the time Jesus was performing miracles and healing the sick. Andrew (a disciple) saw that a young boy present there had 5 mall loaves of bread and 2 small fish, but the disciples were convinced that it was not enough....many would have been convinced that is was not enough for 5000 people. Jesus paid them no mind. He took the fish and the loaves, looked up to heaven, and gave thanks.

"Taking the five loaves and two fish and looking

up to heaven, he gave thanks..." (Matt 14:19)

This is one of the most important lessons we can learn from Jesus. Give thanks. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says "give thanks in all circumstances..." All circumstances doesn't just mean when you feel like it, when it looks like thing will be OK, or when thing work out in your favor. Giving thanks in all circumstances means just that...ALL. Jesus was faced with a situation which looked impossible....5 loaves and 2 fish were supposed to be sufficient enough to feed 5000 followers!? How many of us can honestly say that we would have been content with that thought? Jesus, Son on God, was. He said thank you, with the little bit that they had, he was content.

We must learn to say thank you to God, no matter what our situation is. No matter what our situation is! Whether we think we have too little, too much, not the right stuff, or not enough,we must give thanks to God at all times! Did you read the story? Did you see what happened at the end? At the end the disciples gathered 12 baskets of left over food from the 5000 who had eaten "as much as they wanted" (John 6:11-13). God took what the disciples thought was too little and turned it into more than enough! 12 baskets of leftovers. That's God!

God will change your situation for you. We must believe and have faith that He will take care of us. He's sees our situations, but we must remember that our God is able. Being thankful in all situations shows God that you have faith in Him, that you believe in Him. Learn to give thanks. Give thank to God everyday, no matter what is going on around you or in your life. God will see your thanksgiving and your gratefulness and make sure that your situation is taken care of. God will take care of you.

- Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)

The Bible tells us that our hearts determine the course of our lives, and that it should be the thing we watch after most. What is the easiest way to do that? We must have a heart for God and His Son Jesus Christ. We already know that we must keep God and His Word and commandments in our hearts, but we must realize that in doing this, we are also protecting ourselves. Matthew 12:43-45 tells us that when a demon leaves a person and returns to find where it used to dwell empty and in order, it will return with seven more. But if we fill ourselves with the Holy Spirit, with God's Word, and love, then there will be no room for any evil to come into us. We must guard our hearts so that no evil can enter us and deter God's plan for our lives. What our hearts desire will determine what we do, so we must teach ourselves to love God and His wisdom and His word. When we love God and out hearts desire Him, we will act for God. We will have hearts and minds that are always thinking of Him. Always having the Lord on our minds and doing things for His Kingdom is one of the best ways to keep ourselves on the straight and narrow path the heaven. Without a heart for God, what life is there?

Prayer Point: Pray that God will transform your mind and heart for Him. Pray that God softens your heart to listen and obey Him and His Word at all times. Keep your mind on God all throughout the day. Start to change your thinking and pray that God will give you a mindset like Hi own, so that everything you do will be out of love and will be focused on Him and His Kingdom. Hide God's Word in your heart at all times! (Psalm 119:11 - "I have hidden your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.")

I'll Knock, But You Must Open the Door

(Revelation 3:20)

If Jesus Christ was at your door, right now, wherever you are, wouldn't you open the door? We open the door for the cable man, delivery men, sometimes people we don't even know.... Wouldn't you open the door for Jesus? I'm assuming that many of you answered "yes," but ask yourselves have you really?

In Revelation 3:20, Jesus says "Look I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends." (NLT)

Jesus is knocking at the door of each and every one of our hearts, but WE have to let him in. Jesus wants to sit down and have dinner with us as friends! That is the kind of relationship Christ is looking to have with all of us. One in which you would be comfortable sitting down and having dinner together, chatting over some baked chicken, rice and veggies. We have to truly let Jesus into our hearts. Don't just have him standing in the foyer of your home [heart], let him all the way in. Jesus can knock all day long, offering you salvation for you soul, grace, mercy, and love....but if you don't answer the door he isn't going to break it down to get in. Jesus will wait for us to open the door to our hearts, but if we refuse to let him in, it is purely our loss. Don't lose. Don't miss out on what Jesus is trying to offer us!

Allowing Jesus to come into our hearts means that we allow him to truly transform our lives, our minds, our Spirits, and our attitudes about everything. A true relationship with our Savior will change everything about you and you become a new person (2 Corinthians 5:17). The easiest way to welcome Jesus into your heart is to stay in prayer. Pray to your Savior, give your life to him. Tell him what you feel, need, desire. Tell him that you love him, you need him, and you worship him.

If you haven't already, decide to let Jesus into your heart today. If you feel you already have, invite him further in. Continue to build a true relationship with your Lord and Savior, for we can do nothing without him. Jesus is giving us the opportunity for him to call us his friend (Rev. 3:20). Take him up on his offer! Why wouldn't you want to!

People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.

- Proverbs 28:13 (NLT)

Hiding your sins and wrong doing will do nothing but hinder your spiritual growth and hold you back from the Kingdom of God. This Proverb is very straightforward, those will hide their sins will not prosper, but those who confess will receive mercy. Grace and mercy are the two wonderful gifts that the Lord our God has given us in order for us to reach His Kingdom. We do not "earn" our way into heaven by following the rules and regulations of religion or by our righteous acts (Rom 3:20). We are made right in the sight our God by His grace and mercy on our lives (Eph 2:8). We cannot receive grace and mercy unless we confess our sins to God and truly repent of them, then our sins will be wiped from our slate (Acts 3:19).

Prayer Point: Confess your sins to God. Ask God to reveal any sins you have committed against Him that you aren't aware of. Pray that God has mercy of your soul and that you may be made whole and blameless in the sight of God once again.

Pleasing God is what we as Christians should be striving to do with our lives daily. How can we please God, however, if there are things in us (our lives, relationships, hearts, minds, actions) that God is unhappy with. Performing our good and righteous actions does not cover up the fact that there are pieces of us that God is unhappy with. We must examine ourselves and our lives, truly examine them, and be honest with ourselves. Are there things in our lives that God would question? Are there things we know we should be doing differently? We must remove those things which offend God from our lives, but we must also ask god for help in that area. Sometimes we may be blind to things we do which offend God, but God knows us inside and out....He made us! God can search our hearts like we would never be able to and can point out things that we never would have thought of. God does this because he loves us and wants to help us down that straight and narrow road to everlasting life.

Prayer Point: Pray this Scripture. Ask God to search your heart and test your thoughts. Ask Him to point out anything and everything in your life that He is unhappy with. Ask that He will show them to you and give you the eyes to see what He is pointing out and a heart and the grace to make the necessary changes in your life. Changing isn't easy, but our God wants us to succeed, so ask Him for help and He will kindly oblige you.

One of the greatest things we can learn to do is to trust, wholeheartedly, in the Lord our God. As humans, we tend to rely on ourselves. We live in a day and age where independence is stressed on all levels. People put high esteem in those who can figure things out on their own, make a way or find a way out of things. But that is not what God wants for us. God doesn't want us to use our own human reasoning and understanding. We are to lean on the Lord, trust in Him, and wait for Him to show us what to do, where to go, and how to do it. We must remember that God ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8) and there there is a way that seems right to a man, but it ends in death (Prov 14:12). Our own understanding of life and the right things to do are nothing compared to the knowledge, will, direction, and guidance of God. When faced with a decision or situation do not be quick to figure out a solution for yourself, instead, be quick to turn your heart and mind to God in prayer. Turn your situation over to God and He will show you the most perfect path.

Prayer Point: Pray today that God gives you the grace to turn to Him for everything. Ask God to show you which paths to take in your life and regarding any situation you may be facing. Pray that you will put your trust in God alone, and the God gives you the grace to remain in him and the patience to wait for HIS answer, not your own.

Philippians 3:8 (NLT)

Think about Jesus Christ. Our Savior. The one who laid down his life for us to have the opportunity for salvation. Think about God, the Ruler and Creator of everything. Can you image have a relationship with those two people? Well, you should, because you can. When you know Jesus, I mean truly know him, believe, and trust him, everything else in the world will seem so worthless in comparison. When you know Jesus and the promises that he and God have written down for you in God's word, you will soon realize that nothing even comes close to comparing with how valuable that is. What is having a brand new car when you know Jesus? What is being part of a club when you have Jesus? What is being rich and famous when you have Jesus? Nothing! These things begin to mean nothing because you already have everything! When you are in Christ Jesus you already have everything! You don't need or want anything more!

Prayer Point: Pray today that God will open your heart to truly know Jesus. Ask God to come into your heart today and begin to build your relationship with him today. Praise, worship, pray, and cry out to God that you may know Him and His son. Ask that God give you the understanding to know that you have nothing without Jesus and that you have everything when you are with Jesus.

Take a moment and read that Scripture again.

Did you read it?

Take a moment and think about it.

Pierced...for OUR rebellion. Crushed....for OUR sins. Beaten...so WE could be made whole. Whipped...so WE could be healed. Do you know anybody who would take punishment like that for you? Before you answer that, remember that when Jesus did this for all of us, we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). Jesus did this for all of us when most people despised Jesus, talked about Him, and tried to have him arrested and killed. Now ask yourself again, do you know anyone who would take punishment like that for you? This is such a powerful Scripture because it reminds us what Jesus Christ went through to make us whole, to give us a chance at life. This is why we owe Jesus our lives. Look at what He went through for us. We owe Jesus our everything, because He gave himself for us, for people who had nothing without Him. That is Love. Pure Love. Jesus loved us then, and he loves us now. This Scripture helps put into perspective how vast God's love for us really is. When you hear people say, God is love (1 John 4:8), think about this Scripture and the validity in that statement. God and Jesus love us, and we have nothing without them both. So put your life into perspective when you think about what Jesus gave to give you true life.

Psalm 119:7

In this scripture, the infamous King David is again pouring his heart out to the Lord. Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in Psalm and carries in it so much wisdom and praise from and for our God. Living as we should is what God wants for us. God wants us to be righteous, for we are children of God...We are called to live righteously! As you open your Bible to read and meditate on the word today, think about how you are living. Identify things in your life that would be displeasing to God and do away with them! Thank God for everything by living as you should...by His word! Living by the Word of God is what we as Christians are supposed to do!

Prayer Point: Pray that God will give you the grace to live as you should, day by day. Pray today that God search your heart and your life and identify the things in them both that are displeasing to Him. Pray that God throws away the thing in your life that He doesn't like so that you will be living as you should and living to please God.

"I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you"

John 13:15 (NLT)

In this scripture, Jesus is speaking to his disciples and proceeds to tell them that they have been given an example to follow. Jesus has given us an example to follow in the Word of God. We are to do as Jesus did to all those around him; show love, kindness, gentleness. We are to be faithful, committed, prayerful, righteous, holy, and devoted to God. We must care for the poor, and be filled with forgiveness for others who have wronged us. Jesus Christ is the perfect example by which to live. We should strive everyday to be a reflection of Jesus in all we do. Jesus was faithful to both God and to people.

Prayer Point: Pray today that you will be a reflection of Jesus Christ in all that you do, that you will strive to be like Jesus in your interactions with people and with God. Pray for God to give you the grace to reflect Jesus Christ in his actions, interactions, kindness, gentleness, and purity.

The Lord Will Bless You If…

(Deuteronomy 28:1-14)

Before you begin reading this passage, take the time to first read Deuteronomy 28:1-14. The Lord tells us of the blessings He will bestow upon his people and all the goodness He will add to our lives. But many people overlook the contingency of these blessings. The Lord says IF you obey the Lord your God AND obey his commandments then all these wonderful things He will bestow upon you. We cannot forget the IF!

IF you obey the Lord your God…That is what the first line of the first verse says...AND obey his commandments. Those are the first two things outline in this passage in the Bible. Before God even begins to tell you what He will give you and bless you with, He outlines what it is you have to do first. The Lord is requesting something from you in return for all that He will give you in life.

An issue with many people today, and even many Christians, is that they want the blessings and happiness in life that God gives, but they don’t want to follow the rules. Christianity is an option. God never forces himself upon anybody. For a gift that is forced isn’t a gift at all. But if you chose to accept the gift of happiness and eternal life that He is offering us, you have to do your part and follow what He commands. Just like if I have a house and you want to come in, but I say you have to take your shoes off before you come in. You don’t have to take your shoes off, but that also means you can’t come into my house. That is how Christianity is. If you want eternal life and God’ blessings there are some things you need to do and give up in order to receive them. You don’t have to give these things or change anything about yourself, but that means you won’t receive God’s eternal life in heaven or His blessings on earth.

After reading through the rest of the passage in Deuteronomy, who wouldn’t want the blessings that God is offering us? He says wherever we go and whatever we do we will be blessed! These are mighty promises that we as Christians have access to….as long as we do our part. Love the Lord our God, because once you love Him, following his commands becomes easy. Follow what the will of the Lord says for your life. Trust in His word and His commands and follow them wholeheartedly, then watch your life bloom with blessings, grace, and favor!

Use God’s Light in the Darkness

(Psalm 119:105 & Psalm 119:130)

The Bible tells us that the Word is like a lamp unto our feet. In darkness you need a light to see where you are going or where you should be going. The Bible tells us that the world is full of darkness and that the devil rules the kingdom of darkness. Darkness is sin, evil, deception, immoralities, and ignorance. On the other hand, God is light. Light is His word, truth, knowledge, and freedom from sin.

In darkness you need a light to see where you are going or where you should be going. If you need a light to walk in the dark, you need God’s Word, which IS light, to walk in this world! Without light you will stumble, struggle, and be lost. But that’s not something we as Christians have to go through. Following God’s Word will guide you, point you in the right direction, find you when you are lost in the darkness, and set you on the straight and narrow path the your destiny and eternal life with Christ.

But merely having the Bible is not enough. Having a flashlight in a dark room means nothing unless you turn it on. A Bible sitting in your room can do nothing for your soul or your salvation unless you open it and put its words and wisdom to work in your life! Pick up your Bible today and read it! Make it a habit, because we can’t make it through life on our own. Even Jesus said without God he can do nothing, so what makes us think we are stronger that Jesus Christ? Light has no answer to darkness! When light enters a room, the darkness runs from it for there is nowhere for it to hide and reveals the secrets of the darkness. The Bible says that we are sometimes darkness that sometimes we are the evil in this world. But we can escape that! We can use the light God has given us in His word! Use God’s Word! Take His wisdom for your life and apply it. Be truthful, be faithful, be honest, be kind, and be gentle. Turn on the light that is God’s Word and let the light fill all the corners of your life and watch the darkness leave you.

Devotional (The Flesh)

The Flesh is Weak...Don’t Let it Win

(Mark 14:38)

Mark tells us that we must keep watch and pray lest we give into temptation, for our Spirits are willing but our flesh (bodies) are weak. We must pay careful attention to this wisdom because giving into what our bodies want is how many fall into sin. Whether what your flesh wants to do is physical or not, we must be careful to always follow the Spirit, not our bodies, and be led by our Spirits at all times.

The flesh is weak, but your Spirit is willing. Do not allow your flesh to cause you to miss out on your blessing, breakthrough, calling, or anything from God. God forbid that you have a breakthrough coming your way that you miss out on because you gave into your flesh and fell asleep, engaged in sexual activity, or cursed someone out! If you decide to pray for an hour, do not give up early because you are tired. The Bible tells us to be led by the Spirit, so let God and His Spirit control us, not our flesh, not our weaknesses. Do not do anything with your flesh that might cause you to sin against God. Remember, your flesh is weak! Don’t trust it! Never put your trust in your flesh, for as much control as we like to think we have over it, following the flesh will never fail to lead you to give into temptations, desires, and pleasures that are no good for us. Instead of trusting your flesh, trust the Holy Spirit and trust God. We keep watch and pray so that we do not yield to our flesh’s desires. Prayer is the way to overcome your flesh’s desires that are not in the Will of God. Remember, it is easy to sin. Point. Blank. Period. The devil makes it easy and attractive to sin against God. But keeping watch and staying prayerful will help us to overcome all temptations from our flesh. You are stronger than your flesh! Prove it to yourself and to God!

Get Dressed With God

(Ephesians 6:12-17)

Getting dressed every morning helps set your tone for the day. So as you get dressed think of God and protect yourself from the devil and unseen evils in this world, for we fight not against flesh and blood, but against principalities. Just as you protect yourself from the cold with a sweater and a scarf, clothe yourself with God’s protection daily.

As you put on your pants, make sure to tighten everything up with your belt of truth. Button up your shirt or pull on your sweater and put on the Body Armor of God’s righteousness, living as you should. Slide on your shoes, whether they be heels or flats, and slide on the peace that comes from the Good News, the unexplainable peace that can only come from God and His Holy Spirit. As you do your hair and put on your make-up, be sure to put on your helmet of salvation that protects you throughout the day. Accessories make an outfit, but don’t forget the most important two! Your shield of faith and sword that is the Word of God are the irreplaceable and priceless accessories that give any outfit the perfect finishing touch. Truth, God’s Righteousness, Peace, Faith, Salvation, and the Word of God. Clothe yourself in Christ’s love, God’s grace, His mercy, and His protection for your life. Think always of God, stay focused on His Kingdom. Make these things a part of your daily routine. Just as you put on your earthly clothes, your spiritual clothes are just as important….you would never leave the house without your clothes on, right?
